About the Institute

A leader in the transformation of the future healthcare environment, advancing alongside the Fourth Industrial Revolution and ICT technology

The SNUH Institute of Convergence Medicine with Innovative Technology was established to advance innovative medical technology research that will lead the future healthcare environment by integrating cutting-edge science and technology into clinical practice, amid the era of the Fourth Industrial Revolution and the rapid development of ICT. Since opening as the ‘Innovative Medical Technology Research Institute’ in July 2020, we have laid the foundation for innovative research within the hospital by discovering data science and innovative medical device R&D projects and establishing a support system for full-cycle medical device development.

Today, the Institute has been reorganized into its current structure since July 2025 to consolidate research capabilities and realize an efficient research support environment. The Institute currently conducts research on cutting-edge technologies such as medical robotics, biomaterials, and medical XR through the Innovative Medical Device Research Center, and provides systematic research support—from prototype fabrication to regulatory approval, clinical trials, and usability evaluation—through the Full-cycle Medical Device Research Center.

In particular, with the Advanced Cell & Gene Therapy Center joining as a core capability of the Institute, we have grown into an integrated research hub that spans beyond medical devices to next-generation regenerative medicine and cell and gene therapy. Building on our three core pillars of innovative medical devices, full-cycle medical devices, and advanced cell and gene therapy, the Institute will continue to lead a virtuous research ecosystem in which ideas become real technologies and their fruits bring hope to patients.
